Lashkar operative remanded

Alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Mohammad Zia Ul Haq, who was nabbed by the Hyderabad police, was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days on Tuesday.

He was grilled by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Hyderabad Detective Department till noon and later produced before the Eighth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Nampally Criminal Courts at his residence in Marredpally, Secunderabad, in the evening. Haq is lodged in the Cherlapally Central Prison.

The SIT officials filed a petition seeking custody of Haq for further investigations, alleging that he holds the key to several other terrorist modules and sleeper cells of the LeT. A case under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 122 (collecting arms to war against government), 123 (concealing with intention to wage war) and 124-A of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Haq. Relevant provisions of the Indian Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act and the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act were also invoked.
