Lalu questions viability of bullet train project

‘Decision to invest 1 lakh crore may prove to be the last straw on the camel’s back’

December 22, 2015 11:37 pm | Updated March 24, 2016 11:39 am IST - Patna:

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief and former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday despatched a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning him about the viability of the Rs.98,000-crore bullet train project that has been proposed for the country.

Mr. Prasad also tweeted, raising questions about the “rationality” of such a costly project.

“One short distance bullet train project of Rs.98,000 crore will slow down the lives of 90% Indians. Development should take place, but not at the cost of the poor,” Mr. Prasad tweeted on Tuesday morning.

A minute later, he tweeted again: “PM must explain the rationality of such a costly project. I just pray and hope 90% of the poor and deprived are not going to get run over by it.”
