In a surprise gesture, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad on Friday met JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav to congratulate him on his re-election as the party president.
RJD is the opposition party in Bihar while JD(U) is the major constituent of the state’s ruling NDA. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also belongs to JD(U).
Mr. Prasad, on a campaign trail for mobilising support for the nominees of his RJD-LJP alliance for the bye-elections to the 18 Assembly seats in Bihar, stopped his vehicle at a posh hotel here. He met Mr. Yadav who is staying there and congratulated him on becoming JD(U) chief for a second time.
After spending 15 minutes with Mr. Yadav, Mr. Prasad left for Aurai to campaign for his party nominee.
There was no official word from either Mr. Prasad or Mr. Yadav on what transpired at the meeting between the two leaders, Mr. Yadav said he accepted with humility the gesture of the former Railway Minister.
