The Crime Branch-CID on Monday arrested Prashant, the prime suspect in the IPL betting case in Chennai, and conducted searches at his house here, agency sources said.

During interrogation, Prashant admitted to his involvement in betting for many years. “He confessed to having organised betting since 1997. Several businessmen in the city are among his clients. We have seized some documents and laptops from his house at Ayanavaram. Searches were also carried out on the premises of two other suspects at Kellys and Purasawalkam,” an investigator said. The bookies only conducted betting and never got in touch with the players.

Prashant pleaded ignorance of the Delhi-based kingpin who organised betting across the country. “We are referring his laptop and other electronic gadgets to the cyber crime cell for analysis. His bank accounts and cash transactions are being investigated,” the official said.

Meanwhile, the CB-CID has filed a petition in a Saidapet court, seeking custody of four bookies already arrested in the case. The plea is expected to be heard on Wednesday, the sources said.
