From Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday warned cow vigilantes not to indulge in violence in the name of cow protection, and stressed that no one in the country has the right to take the law into his or her own hands.
“Killing people in the name of 'gau bhakti' cannot be accepted. This is not something Mahatma Gandhi would approve of” Mr. Modi said, breaking his silence over killings, allegedly by cow vigilantes, in some States.
The Prime Minister was speaking from Ashram Gaushala Trust, part of Mahatma Gandhi’s Ashram in Ahmedabad.

“Let’s work together and create the India of Mahatma Gandhi’s dreams. Let’s create an India our freedom fighters would be proud of. Violence never has and never will solve any problem and as a society, there is no place for violence,” he said.
“No one spoke about protecting cows more than Mahatma Gandhi and Acharya Vinoba Bhave. Yes, it should be done,” he pointed out.
