Kidnapped boy found abandoned in Manipur

October 29, 2013 08:23 am | Updated 08:23 am IST - IMPHAL:

A 10-year-old boy, who was abducted by four suspected militants, was found abandoned at Khurai in Imphal East district on Monday evening.

The militants reportedly left the child behind on seeing the police patrol team.

Police sources said that the boy, Rishal Wahengbam, was kidnapped while he was on his way to attend a tuition class. The militants, who were looking for child recruits, were planning to take the boy to their camp in Myanmar.

In Manipur, recruiting child soldiers has been a burgeoning problem. Hundreds of children are recruited every year. Meanwhile, local youths with assistance from police handed over Wahengbam to his parents.
