Khurshid’s frog remark draws BJP fire

“Congress lost all decency while referring to senior Opposition leaders”

August 17, 2013 12:24 am | Updated November 16, 2021 09:28 pm IST - DEHRADUN:

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid ran into severe criticism from the BJP on Friday after he called Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi a frog.

“A frog gets confused after coming out of the well, and this is what has happened to Mr. Modi,” Mr. Khurshid told reporters here, after a meeting to review relief and rescue operations in the flood-ravaged Uttarakhand.

‘Tallest leader’

Reacting sharply, the former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said the Congress was bewildered at the very thought of Mr. Modi, who had emerged as one of the tallest leaders in the country.

“If leaders from the States were frogs coming out of wells, Mr. Khurshid must also have come out of some well.”

Leader of the Opposition Ajay Bhatt said: “Not only Mr. Khurshid but the entire Congress has lost all decency while referring to senior Opposition leaders, including the BJP Chief Ministers.”

This showed that the Congress had realised it would be routed in the Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Bhatt added.
