The Aam Adami Adami Party (AAP) on Tuesday made it clear that the KG basin scam will be their main political issue during the campaigning for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“This has been the biggest scam in the history of this country, before which other scams like Bofors will look extremely miniscule,” alleged AAP leader Yogendra Yadav, in a press conference held in Mumbai, making it clear that the party has enormous evidence against Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani in this case. The Delhi government has already filed an FIR against Mr. Ambani in this case.
“This will be a political issue in the upcoming elections,” he said.
“Narendra Modi who is always ready to attack Congress over the issue of corruption is absolutely silent. Why is it that he hasn't spoken a single word?” he asked, alleging that both Congress and BJP are shielding Mr. Ambani.
Mr. Yadav also made it clear that AAP considers the newly formed third front as a group of opportunist political parties and he does not see his party aligning with UPA, NDA or the third front in the post poll scenario.
“We are trying to give an alternative to established political parties. We consider the Left front also among the established ones,” he said, adding that AAP's agenda is to give anti-UPA, anti-NDA and anti-third front alternative.
Commenting on CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat's statement of aligning with AAP, he said that the party does not share any political or ideological space with the Left. “They are aligning with Jayalalitha in Tamil Nadu and BJD in Orissa. What agenda of change are they talking about?” he asked.
Replying to BJP's allegation of not fulfilling promises in Delhi, Mr. Yadav said that he welcomes scrutiny. “Narendra Modi too promised 50 lakh houses in his manifesto during Gujarat elections. It will be worth scrutinising his claim as well,” he said.
The AAP leader said that the resignation from the Delhi government was inevitable as Jan Lokpal was opposed by Congress and BJP. “However we feel that our action against Mr. Ambani was the tipping point,” he said.
Mr. Yadav made it clear that party wants to contest on majority of seats in the country during the upcoming elections but haven't decided on the exact number. “On the same lines, we are hoping to contest all 48 seats in Maharashtra. But decision will be taken only after we find right candidates,” he said.
Commenting on the discontent within party over the announcement of candidates in Pune and Nagpur, he said that there will always be two opinions on any issue. “It was us from Delhi, who asked Anajli Damania to considering Nagpur's seat. And the difference of opinion shows that people have serious expectations from us,” said Mr. Yadav.
