The Kerala Catholic Youth Movement on Monday took out a rally in Thiruvananthapuram demanding decommissioning of the Mullaperiyar dam and building of a new dam to supply water to Tamil Nadu.

Organisers said that about 500 youth from Thiruvanathpuram and Kollam had participated in the rally organised as part of a youth convention.

They said that the failure of the 114-year-old dam would affect nearly 40 lakh people. A new dam should be built to protect the lives of the people and ensure supply of water to Tamil Nadu. The agreement with Tamil Nadu in this regard should be reviewed.

Member of the Assembly P.C. George addressed the rally.
