Youth Congress activists of Pathanapuram protested against the recent fuel price hike by pushing a car and their motorcycles through Pathanapuram town on Tuesday.

Youth Congress Pathanapuram constituency president M.S. Pradeep Kumar, who led the protest, said even as the price of crude oil was going down in the international markets, the BJP-led government at the Centre was hiking fuel prices every month.

The hikes are meant to help corporate houses, he alleged. Because of this, the common man is in no way benefitted by the fall in crude oil prices. The price is kept high by hiking taxes and though this operation the Modi government had made an excess revenue of Rs.80,000 crore.

Mr. Santosh said that when the previous UPA government was in power, the price of crude oil per barrel was $114.

Though the price dropped to $54 during the Modi rule, the people are fleeced by not reducing the fuel prices.

Youth Congress leaders Aneesh Kareem, J. Jaleel, Anil Neerkuzhi, Santosh Mullumala, Akhil, Ashik Roy and Shaiju Vishwanath among others led the demonstration.
