A labourer buried under a heap of earth that caved in while he was at work on a plot at Balankinar in Kannur on Saturday was rescued in a joint rescue operation by the Police and Fire and Rescue Service personnel.
The labourer was identified as Jayaraman (40) from Tamil Nadu. The mishap occurred in the morning when he, along with four other workers was digging at a house construction site at Balankinar near Puthiyatheru under the Valapattanam police station limits. He was almost buried under a mass of earth that caved in. Local people also joined in the rescue work that saved his life. He has been admitted to a hospital here.
