The preliminary work on the village proposed at Muliyar as part of the comprehensive rehabilitation package for endosulfan victims in the district will commence within two months, Agriculture Minister and Minister-in-charge of the district K.P. Mohanan has said.

As part of the project, a seminar and architect workshops to ensure coordination of various departments and agencies involved in the project will be organised, he has said.

The Minister was speaking after inaugurating a seminar on the Central University of Kerala’s Nayanmarmoola campus here on Thursday to prepare a draft project report on the rehabilitation village.

Report to be submitted

The report would be placed before the Cabinet subcommittee in the presence of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy prior to the commencement of the work, he said.

The Minister expressed the hope that the World Health Organization (WHO) would extend help for setting up the unique rehabilitation village to help endosulfan victims.

Coordination

The project requires help of various departments such as Health, Revenue, Social Justice, Panchayat, and Agriculture and their experts to set up the model village.

The State-owned Plantation Corporation of Kerala will hand over the required land for the village, he said.

N.A. Nellikkunnu, MLA, presided over the seminar.

District panchayat president P.P. Shyamala Devi; District Collector Mohammed Sagir; endosulfan rehabilitation cell Deputy Collector N.P. Balakrishnan; among others, took part in the programme.
