A 70-year old woman pilgrim, identified as Rugmini Amma of Kazhuthodathu house at Chelakkara in Thrissur district, died of cardiac arrest at the Cardiology Centre at Neelimala-Top on the Pampa-Sannidhanam traditional trekking path on Thursday afternoon.

Rugmini Amma, accompanied by her son, Radhakrishnan, had reportedly suffered severe chest pain and had breathing difficulty while undertaking the arduous climb of the Appachimedu hill. Volunteers of the Ayyappa Seva Sanghom stretcher service rushed her to the Cardiology Centre at Neelimala-Top where she breathed her last around 1.40 pm.

According to the stretcher service captain Thanchavur Damodaran, the body has been brought to Pampa and it will be transported to Thrissur in an ambulance, later. This is the first cardiac casualty at Sabarimala of the 41-day Mandalam season that began on November 16, he adds.
