A woman, a senior official with a nationalised bank’s branch at Haripad, allegedly committed suicide here on Friday night. The woman was recently suspended from the bank on charges of swindling Rs. 80 lakh.

According to the police, the woman was accused of swindling Rs.80 lakh from the Non-Resident Indian accounts of the bank and was suspended. It was reportedly agreed that the woman would repay the money by Friday evening. She had gone to her brother’s residence, where she was found lying dead in the backyard late on Friday night.

The woman allegedly consumed ‘payasam’ laced with poison. The Kayamkulam police registered a case, conducted the post-mortem and handed over the body to relatives late on Saturday. Further investigation is on, police said.
