Woman, child fatally hit by train

A 59-year old woman and her grand daughter were fatally hit by a running train near the Edakkad railway station near here on Wednesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as E.G. Kamalakshi from Chennai and her grand-daughter, Haritha. The accident occurred at 5.50 a.m. when they were crossing the railway track on their way to the station to board a passenger train to Koyilandi to attend a family function. Their relatives witnessed the accident.

The Edakkad police said that Kamalakshi, wife of Venu Marar of East Thambaram, Chennai, had reached her ancestral house at Muzhappilangad two days ago.
