A woman from Angamaly has alleged that Jose Thettayil, MLA, and his son Adarsh Thettayil had sexually abused her over the course of a year.

The woman, a resident of Manjapra, filed a complaint before the Superintendent of Police, Aluva Rural, on Sunday afternoon.

“The complainant said she came to know the MLA after he had inaugurated a business concern she was associated with. She said she had been in a relationship with Mr. Thettayil’s son,” Sateesh Bino, District Police Chief, Ernakulam Rural, said.

The woman alleged in the complaint that she had been romantically involved with Adarsh and he had sexually abused her after promising to marry her.

Adarsh, who now works in Mumbai, had abused her for around a year and the last case of abuse was in October 2012, she alleged. The MLA, she said, had abused her after approaching her as her fiancé’s father.

She told the police that she had videographic evidence to prove that both father and son had abused her. She had filmed the abuse using a webcam after she suspected that Adarsh was trying to avoid her, she told the police. The police said they had not received the videos yet, but that the allegations would be looked into.

A case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with punishment for rape, has been charged.

Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said a woman police officer — Ajeetha Begum, Superintendent of Police, Internal Security Investigation Team — would head the investigation into the case.
