‘Wings’ takes off at tribal school

The government will implement innovative schemes launched at the model residential schools in Pathanamthitta in other districts too, Minister for Tribal Welfare P.K. Jayalakshmi has said. She was inaugurating the second phase of ‘Wings’ (Chirakukal) project aimed at personality development of tribal children at the Model Residential School at Vadasserikkara in Ranni taluk on Thursday.

Appreciating the district administration for successfully implementing projects aimed at promoting arts, sports, and cultural talents in tribal children, Ms. Jayalakshmi said such initiatives were a model to the rest of the State. On the occasion, the Minister also felicitated Kalamandalam Sreedevi, renowned dancer, who has been taking free dance classes at the Model Residential School. Addressing another function at Nilackal, Ms Jayalakshmi said the proposed tribal housing scheme at Manjathode, near Laha, would be executed in a time-bound manner.

She said the housing project was aimed at rehabilitating the nomadic Malampandaram families in the Sabarimala forests, Moozhiyar, Gavi, and Seethathode. The government had already started construction of houses for the landless tribal families, utilising a Rs.135-crore credit from HUDCO.

The Ministervisited the Government Tribal Lower Primary School at Attathode. Ms. Jayalakshmi said the government would release funds for constructing a new school building as soon as land was allotted. She launched the infrastructure development scheme of the Kozhencherry Lions Club at the tribal school on the occasion.
