A Division Bench of the High Court on Monday suggested that the authorities bring in regulations so that candidates who mention names of Ministers or political persons as references in their applications for the post of Vice Chancellor invite disqualification.

Disqualifying Babu Sebastian as Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University, the Bench pointed out that in his application, Mr. Sebastian had mentioned as reference persons the names of two persons who were Ministers then.

He also mentioned in the application that he had authored the biography of one of them.

The Bench wished the authorities might ensure, by suitable regulations, that such practice earned a disqualification.
