Snyesthesia, an exhibition of paintings by 16 artists based on the works of 16 poets has begun at the Kream Kroner Art Café here.
Organised by Mattancheriyil Kalakshethram, a collective of painters, sculptors, journalists and art lovers in its 16th year, the exhibition will be on for 16 days.
Ameen Khaleel has based his illustration in mixed media on the poem ‘Thiruthalvadam' by Kavalam Narayana Panicker, which depicts the mask worn by a man that is difficult to recognize. “Kavalam sir in his poem has described of small fishes evolving themselves into whales and I used this in the painting,” says Mr. Khaleel.
A painting by Ajayan V.Kattungal on the poem by G.Sudhkaran, MLA, titled ‘Obama' is a centre of attraction. Incidentally, Mr.Sudhakaran also inaugurated the exhibition on Saturday.
The youngest painter of the 16 artists, Gopika .S has chosen one of the poems of the youngest of the 16 poets selected- Aadhila Kabir.
T.R.Udayakumar did a painting based on a poem titled ‘Naya' (Dog) by noted poet Sugathakumari. A poem by Kureeppuzha Sreekumar is the muse of an abstract painting by M.Gopidasan. Jyothi Rajeev, a homemaker whose poems were a hit on facebook, has its reflection in a painting by Ajo Kaitharam.
A latest poem based on the murder of Revolutionary Marxist party (RMP) leader, T.P.Chandrasekharan, ‘ Mounam' (Silence) by Laser Shine is an inspiration for a painting by Satheesh Vazhaveli. R.Suraj has come up with a painting to the English poem by Fousiya Yoonus titled ‘The Unwritten Epitaph'.
‘Avarthanam' a poem by Amritha inspired Thomas Kurian's painting. The works of Baiju Paulose, Vinayathejaswi S, K.R.Balagopalan Nair, Anas, Husain, Akash and Sheeja Joseph are also exhibited.
The poem which forms the muse of the painting is also exhibited along with the painting. Rinku Raj Mattancheriyil, one of the organizers says that the collective is organising such events for the last 15 years.
