West Bengal model a trial run: Forward Bloc

May 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - KANNUR:

All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) national secretary G. Devarajan has said that the alliance against anti-democratic forces and communalism in West Bengal is the trial run for the national politics of tomorrow.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Devarajan said the priority of the progressive and democratic movements should be to forge an alliance when the democratic values and communal harmony of the country are under threat. He said the State leadership of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was oblivious to the threat, though the Central leadership of the party understood its dangers.

Slams LDF

Alleging that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) had become a ‘communist opportunistic front’, Mr. Devarajan said the AIFB had decided to stop co-operating with the LDF and to associate with the United Democratic Front (UDF).

He hoped that the Communist Party of India (CPI) would also soon part ways with the LDF. When the AIFB had decided to dissociate with the LDF, the CPI(M) accused it of having lost the Left character, he said, adding that he wanted to know if the CPI(M) had lost its Left character in West Bengal after joining hands with the Congress.

The AIFB leader also said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was unlikely to open account in the Assembly because of the political culture of the State. He exuded the hope that the UDF would come to power again in the State.
