Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president Kummanam Rajasekharan has told party workers that ‘weeds’ that try to flourish in the State unit of the party will be uprooted.

“It is a fact that some weeds had tried to flourish under the shade of Central rule and the massive tree named BJP. The moment they came to (our) attention, they were uprooted. I assure you that if we come to learn that there are more weeds left in the party, they will also be rooted out. It is just that we will have to observe some procedures since this is not an autocratic party. The present delay is on account of that. This is not the time to feel despondent,” Mr. Rajasekharan said in an open letter to party cadres and well-wishers on Tuesday.

He advised party workers and well-wishers to be vigilant against those who had unleashed the campaign that the Kerala unit of the BJP was full of corrupt persons and fraudsters.

“What has happened now is not corruption, but an individual level financial fraud. It has already become clear that the key players in it have nothing to do with the BJP. Still, it is true that a party worker had tried to commit a fraud in the name of the party. We have taken the maximum that a political party could do under such circumstances. Any further action can be taken only by the judiciary and the government of the land,” he said, dropping a clear hint that the party would not stand in the way of the official machinery moving against those who had indulged in corrupt practices.

Mr. Rajasekharan denied the allegation that there was diversion of election funds during the last Assembly polls. The funds were handled by specially-constituted committees and not by the candidates. This being the case, the attempt to link senior leaders with the campaign was intended only to personally vilify them.

The BJP was the only party in the country that had submitted poll expense accounts to the Election Commission. The party had not received any complaint about fund utilisation in any constituency. It was, therefore, unfortunate that fake reports on the subject were being put into circulation. Whoever be the persons working behind this, they could be seen only as enemies of the party, the BJP State president said.
