The Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi (KVVES) district committee and the United Democratic Front district committee will observe a dawn-to-dusk hartal on Friday in the district in protest against the ruling of the Karnataka High Court upholding the ban on night traffic in the Sulthan Bathery-Gundlepet stretch of National Highway 212.
Farmers Relief Forum ,a farmers’ organisation, had also given a hartal call on the same day in the district in protest against the anti farmer policies of the central government and the alleged revenue recovery measures adopted by the financial institutions against the farming community by using the harsh measures such as the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act.
The KVVES district committee district general secretary K. Usman and vice president K. Kunjirayin Haji told the media persons here on Thursday that the KVVES would intensify the agitation to reinstate the night time traffic. As a part of it the KVVES activists will stage a road blockade at Muthanga on the National Highway 212 on Wednesday.
Apart from this the fruits and vegetables supply from Karnataka to Malabar area would be blocked at the border check posts in the district by the middle of April .The decision of the Kerala ministry to challenge the ruling of the Karnataka High Court in the Supreme Court would not solve the issue soon. Instead of that, the state government and the MPs in the state should press the central ministry to issue an ordinance against the night ban after a detailed study, they demanded.
They alleged that the night ban was an after result of a conspiracy of an environmental organisation and some former wild life officials in Karnataka for their own benefit.
