Water in wells near temple to be tested

Residents express fear of chemical contamination

April 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - KOLLAM:

Water in the wells in one square kilometre around the Puttingal Devi temple at Paravur is being tested by the Health Department to ensure quality.

Local residents had expressed fears that huge quantities of chemicals from the fireworks and human body parts that got splintered, apart from concrete debris, could have fallen into many wells following Sunday’s explosion.

This fear had prevented people in the area from using the well water in their compounds and it created water scarcity in the area.

For the past three days, water is being supplied in tanker lorries.
