The former Supreme Court Judge K.T. Thomas has said that it is inexplicable why many religious leaders have termed blasphemous the act of featuring Jesus Christ as a revolutionary. Was not Jesus Christ a revolutionary, just like Socrates and Sree Narayana Guru, he has asked.
Referring to the controversy over a morphed poster of ‘The Last Supper,' at a Sukumar Azhikode memorial meet here on Monday, he said the country had witnessed many parodies in the past. Cartoons have been drawn based on religious figures and political leaders in the past. The Last Supper was painted by Leonardo da Vinci about 1,500 years after the time of Jesus Christ. That a parodied version of the painting has attracted vehement opposition from various quarters of society is indeed saddening, he added.
It is a matter of shame that many prominent personalities of various educational institutions are involved in corrupt activities sitting under the very image of Jesus Christ. Are there many schools and colleges in the State that do not accept bribes during appointments and admissions, he asked. It is in such instances that the State would miss the immense courage that Sukumar Azhikode has had in pointing out the farcical perceptions of society, he said.
