Rahul Kannoly, who put up a stunning performance for the Indian team at the FIFA U-17 World Cup, was given a warm reception by his friends, locals and football fans here on Saturday.
A huge crowd, led by Mayor Ajitha Jayarajan, welcomed him at Thrissur.
He was presented with a bouquet, a crown and ponnada.
Earlier, the footballer was received by his parents, Praveen and Bindu, and football fans at the Nedumbassery airport.
Sweets distributed
At his native place Ollukkara, local people celebrated by bursting firecrackers and distributing sweets.
“I am extremely happy to perform well for the country,” he said.
Rahul represented the country in three matches. In a crucial miss for India in the match against Columbia, Rahul’s volley hit the goalpost and missed the net.
The footballer is now preparing for participating in Under 19 World Cup qualifying match.
