More than a week after a wall behind the Golf Club in the city collapsed over a house at Kadappathala Nagar Lane in Kowdiar, the residents of the house are waiting for the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the owners of the Golf Club, to rebuild the wall and provide adequate compensation.

Car porch damaged

During the rains on the night of May 13, the 12-foot-high wall behind the Golf Club collapsed over a part of the house, damaging the car porch, a pillar supporting the top floor, the front portion of the house, and two cars that were parked here.

Rescued

During the collapse, there were seven people in the house, including four children, all of whom had to be rescued by Fire Service personnel, as the entry point was blocked by large stones and mud.

An electric post had also collapsed in the impact.

According to Sudha S. Nair, an employee of HLL Lifecare who resides in the house with her two sons and mother, the Golf Club provided them accommodation for a week, after which they came back home.

Need to be rebuilt

“The walls have to be rebuilt and the maintenance work on my house has to be carried out by SAI. Their officials came here the next day and took measurements and went away. But since then, they have not been responding to my calls. So, we are not really sure of what to do next. The Golf Club is now helping us to rebuild the supporting pillar for the top floor and a part of our wall on the other side. The Golf Club wall can be done only by SAI,” she says.

Maintenance

She says maintenance work on the house was carried out only recently, after procuring a bank loan.

Much of the work done then had been laid to waste by the unexpected wall collapse.
