Munnar evokes different mood for a visitor when it rains heavily or mildly. Rain that is hard to distinguish with the mists is a unique feature of Munnar.
Local people have given different names to different types of rain from heavy rain to a very mild one.
The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) on Friday gave an opportunity to savour the beauty of rain in Munnar through a programme titled Monsoon Walk.
Joice George, MP, on Friday flagged off Monsoon Walk at Munnar heralding the arrival of the monsoon tourism.
Different rhythm of rain
K.V. Francis, DTPC secretary, said the Monsoon Walk was being organised to give the opportunity to experience the different rhythm of the rains in the High Range.
Protect nature
It will help them to love the environment and contribute positively for protecting nature.
Mr. George said some incidents that affected the environment of Munnar were also being noticed recently and those in the tourism sector should be careful in protecting the environment.
The nature should be kept intact for the future growth and development of tourism, he said.
Tug of war
Those who participated in the Monsoon Walk travelled three kilometres and joined at the Little Flower Girls High School ground, where a tug of war was organised on the muddy ground.
It was inaugurated by Merin Joseph, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Idukki.
The Monsoon Walk will be organised at Ramakkalmedu and Wagamon on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
