The Judicial First Class Magistrate-II here has granted permission to provide to Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan a copy of the statement given by R. Sreedharan Nair under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before the Judicial First Class Magistrate at Ranni on July 6.
Disposing of a petition filed by Mr. Achuthanandan seeking a copy of the statement, on Monday, Magistrate Mohammed Raees permitted to give him a copy of solar scam case accused Saritha S. Nair’s bail plea also.
Mr. Nair had filed a writ petition before the magistrate here on June 12 alleging that Saritha and her business partner Biju Radhakrishnan had cheated him of Rs.40 lakh, promising to set up a 3-MW solar power plant at his industrial unit in Palakkad. The Konni police registered a cheating case against Saritha and Biju, arrested them, and remanded them in jail.
Mr. Sreedharan Nair had kicked up a political storm with his claim that he, along with Saritha, had visited Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at his office in the Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram.
Mr. Achuthanandan is likely to get the copy of Mr. Nair’s statement on Tuesday, official sources said.
