‘VS should explain change of stand’

Political parties will not be allowed to cash in on TP’s martyrdom, says Rema

March 28, 2014 02:49 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:29 pm IST - Thrissur:

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan should reveal the reason for his volte-face on the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case, K.K. Rema, wife of the slain Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader, has said.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, she said an alternative communist party could not accommodate Mr. Achuthanandan, who changed his stand according to situations.

Alternative party

“We thought an alternative communist party could be formed with the leadership of Mr. Achuthanandan. But we were wrong. Mr. Achuthanandan took different stands in different situations. People supported the stand he took when Chandrasekharan was murdered. But he did a volte-face. People would like to know why he changed his stand. I don’t know whether Mr. Achuthanandan was offered anything for changing his stand,” Ms. Rema said.

She said no political party would be allowed to cash in on Chandrsekharan’s martyrdom.

She refused to react to Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishan’s comments that Mr. Achuthanandan had “sold” Chandrasekharan.

“I don’t want to react to that. Let them solve their problem. The RMP will not get involved in that issue. People thought the CPI(M) would stop political violence after Chandrasekharan’s murder. But it proved the people wrong with Perinjanam murder. Elimination of people on the basis of political differences cannot be justified,” she said.

She said both the left and right parties considered industrialists as their gods and mentors. “The RMP is facing the election with the idea of an alternative left front against this nexus,” she added.

RMP’s Thrissur candidate T.L. Santhosh, and RMP leaders P.S. Babu, P.R. Sidharathan, P.J. Monsy and Bhagath Sigh attended.

No to violence

Later, addressing Mr. Santhosh’s election campaign, Ms. Rema said the deviation of communist parties from their main policies had led to the formation of the RMP.

“When the CPI(M) is trying to resist violence with violence, we are trying to tackle it with our political stand. Left leaders Prakash Karat, Pinarayi Vijayan and V.S Achuthanandan have the same voice now. The Congress party has become spokespersons of capitalism,” she said.
