Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has written to Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala seeking cancellation of parole granted to K.C. Ramachandran, who had been sentenced to imprisonment for his involvement in the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case. Sources said the Opposition leader has termed the parole a challenge to the laws of the land and expressed suspicions about the Home Minister’s motives. The government’s attempt appeared to be to first grant parole and keep on extending it, Mr. Achuthanandan said.

In a release, the Home Minister’s office clarified that nothing illegal had been done in the matter. K.C. Ramachandran, the release said, was granted parole following his mother’s death and there was no question of the government committing breach of law in such issues.
