Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan came under fire from friends and foes alike on the first day of the two-day CPI(M) State committee meeting here on Tuesday.
The veteran leader faced criticism for his decision to proceed to Kudankulam defying the party decision not to associate with the stir currently on against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. Mr. Achuthanandan, publicly censured by the party Central committee for his action on Sunday, was told that his action amounted to serious breach of party discipline. What was noteworthy about the discussion was that he was criticised not only by his detractors in the party, but also by some of his loyalists.
The discussions in the party forum were on the basis of the CPI(M) Central committee resolution on the subject. The Central committee had directed Mr. Achuthanandan to fall in line with the stand adopted on the issue of nuclear power plants by the party at its 20 Party Congress in Kozhikode. Polit Bureau member S. Ramachandran Pillai briefed the State committee about the Central committee’s deliberations on the subject.
