Vizhinjam port work to begin on August 11

The first phase of the action plan for developing the Vizhinjam port will be launched on August 11, Minister for Ports, Law and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar has said.

While replying to questions in the Assembly on Thursday, Mr. Vijayakumar said that the first phase comprised development work costing Rs.450 crore.

TELK development

Mr. Vijayakumar, who deputised for Industries Minister Elamaram Karim, said a development plan for Rs.88 crore had been envisaged for the Transformers and Electricals Limited Kerala (TELK) at Angamaly.

Land for BrahMos

The Airports Authority of India had okayed the State government's proposal to provide land for developing the BrahMos Aerospace factory here.

Check-dams

Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran said that construction of 23 check-dams would be completed this year.

Vigilance cases

Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that 579 vigilance cases were registered against 1,189 officers since the government came to power. Charge sheets had been filed in 91 cases. Inquiry on 22 cases had been completed, but the charge sheets had not been filed so far, he said.
