Visitors Management System (VisMan), a software developed and installed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Wayanad centre, to intensify the security measures in the civil station have started functioning in the Wayanad Civil station here.
“We have incorporated the unique system as a part of intensifying the security measures of the civil station as per the direction of the state government,” District collector T. Bhaskaran told The Hindu after the implementation of the system on Tuesday, and added that the system would be the first one of its kind in the state.
As per the new system, a temporary photo identity card would be issued to each visitor after collecting the details of the visitor. The name, address, village, panchayat, the section which the visitor has to visit, the purpose of visit and the photograph of the visitor in a visitor’s register will be some of the details collected, he added.
With the help of the register, the number of visitors to the civil station in a day as well as the section wise statistical data of visitors can be made easily available, Mr. Bhaskaran said.
The data would be provided to the Kerala State Wide Area Network (KSWAN), and the might prove to be helpful to the police department later, he said. As many as 110 photo identity cards have been issued on Tuesday and 152 cards issued on Wednesday, NIC sources said.
As part of implementing the stringent security measures in the civil station, the collector had directed all the department personnel to wear the identity cards compulsorily during the office hours. Metal detectors would also be set up in the civil station gate soon as a part of the security measures, he added. After the implementation of the programme, the number of unwanted visitors and the number of private vehicles parked on the civil station premises has decreased considerably, Mr .Bhaskaran said.
