SFI secured landslide victory in the election

The Kerala Students Union (KSU) will move court against the violence that marred the elections to the Mahatma Gandhi University students’ union on Thursday, State president K.M. Abhijith has said.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Friday, he said the LDF government was supporting the undemocratic manner in which the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) was trying to annihilate other students’ organisations on campuses.

Fair elections

Mr. Abhijith demanded that universities take steps to ensure free and fair elections on the campuses of affiliated colleges.

The KSU leader’s response follows violent incidents during the MG University union elections in which the SFI had secured a landslide victory.

Injuries

KSU Ernakulam district president Aloysius Xavier had received serious head injuries in the violence. KSU leaders alleged that the identity cards of councillors elected from the affiliated colleges were destroyed by SFI activists.

As such, many KSU councillors could not cast their vote in Thursday’s elections.

Police action

Meanwhile, the police have zeroed in on a few SFI activists who were involved in the violence.

The Gandhinagar police said further action would be taken soon.
