As many as 33,148 women harassment cases were registered since the LDF government assumed office, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said.
In reply to questions in the Assembly on Friday, the Home Minister said that 273 women victims died in such incidents. About 1,439 cases of miscreants waylaying women and snatching their gold ornaments have been reported in this period.
About 40,317 theft cases were registered during the period. The loss of gold in these cases has been pegged at Rs.1380863037. Other articles worth Rs.1492002335 were stolen.
Revenue Minister K.P.Rajendran said that 552 cases were registered for encroachment on government land since the Left Democratic Front government came to power. There were provisions to award three to five years imprisonment and a fine of Rs.50,000 against those encroaching on government land. The field survey in Munnar will be completed soon. As much as 17,922 acres in Munnar will be notified as reserve forest soon.
Minister for Education M.A.Baby said that adalats (public hearing and grievance redressal) for correcting the date of birth of students up to tenth standard will be held at Thrissur and Kozhikode soon. Applications for correcting the mistakes in the entry of date of birth of students in certificates up to tenth standard can be submitted at the District Education Offices. As part of initiative for computerising classrooms, power connection will be provided to 20,000 classrooms for installing computers. According to a report of the Economics and Statistics Department in 2007, there are 2646 unrecognised schools in the State. Thiruvananthapuram has the highest number of unrecognised schools - 347 followed by Malappuram with 326. Kottayam district has the lowest of 94 schools.
Transport Minister Jose Thettayil said that the government was planning to introduce CNG in KSRC buses from 2012-13. This was expected save the corporation's fuel bill by 45 per cent. The corporation has apprised the gas agency of its fuel needs, he said.
