Forensic surgeons who conducted post-mortem examination on Vinayakan’s body, the Dalit youth who committed suicide in July here, have indicated that he was subjected to severe torture.
In their testimony to the Lok Ayukta, Head of the Forensic Department at Thrissur Medical College N.A Balram and Assistant Professor K.B. Ragin said there were injuries caused by punches on his body.
Two civil police officers of the Pavaratty police station are under suspension in the case.
The Lok Ayukta directed the Rural SP to take action against the Pavaratty Sub-Inspector who failed to produce the case diary before it. It asked the Pavaratty police to submit the complaint register from July 1 to July 8.
Meanwhile, National Commission for Scheduled Castes chairman Ram Sankar Katheria, who called on Vinayakan’s family at Engandiyur on Thursday, directed the State Police Chief to take action against the Pavaratty Circle Inspector and Sub-Inspector in connection with the case.
The commission called upon the government to give ₹50 lakh compensation and a monthly pension of ₹5,000 to Vinayakan’s family. It also suggested that the government provide job for one of his family members.
The government should provide financial support for the education of Vinayakan’s brother till he finished graduation, the commission said.
The family was given financial aid of ₹4 lakh from the Scheduled Caste Welfare Fund, the District Collector told the commission.
Vinayakan, 19, committed suicide at his house at Engandiyur in July following alleged custodial torture by the police.
