Leader of Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has said that the move to arraign him as an accused in a Vigilance land-grabbing case was nothing but an attempt at political revenge and that the case itself was a fake one.

Talking to the media here on Thursday, Mr. Achuthanandan said it would have been a surprise if the Oommen Chandy cabinet that had six “corrupt ministers” had not made such a move. The Vigilance Director, who had actually retired, was given a promotion and other benefits and made to do whatever the ministers wanted to, he said.

Stating that he had been working in public glare for nearly 70 years, Mr. Achuthanandan said the people knew him well and such tricks would not stand before them. Declaring that he would tackle this challenge legally and politically as well, Mr. Achuthanandan said that Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty had earlier proved that he was capable of making the police and the law ministry dance to his tunes and now, was making moves in the belief that he could do the same again.

Mr. Achuthanandan also alleged that others including Kerala Congress (B) leader R. Balakrishna Pillai and suspended IPS officer Tomin J. Thachankary too were behind the campaign against him.
