Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) Chief Vigilance Officer Rishi Raj Singh has said that stringent laws should be enacted to stop the practice of putting up hoardings and bill boards at public places and electric posts in the country.

Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday after attending an adalat, the first such programme organised by the vigilance wing of the KSEB in the State, Mr. Singh said the State and Central governments were yet to enact any law in this regard. A strict law was the need of the hour to stop such practices and punish the defaulters, he said.

Misuse of electric poles

Many TV cable operators were using electric poles for drawing television cables without the permission of the KSEB and such cables would be removed by the end of March, if they failed to enter into a contract with the KSEB, Mr. Singh said.

The adalat was aimed at solving the issues of the public relating to the functioning of the KSEB, Mr. Singh said adding that he had received as many as 60 grievances in the first sitting.

Major grievances were related to voltage issues and others were related to complaints against some board officials and laying electric cables through private property.

As many as 52 of the 60 grievances would be settled soon and other grievances should be handed over to the Additional District Magistrate and District Police Chief for further action, Mr. Singh said.

Adalats would be organised in all districts in a time-bound manner, he said.
