Veteran sports scribe Vimcy passes away

Veteran sports scribe V. M. Balachandran died on Saturday at his residence here following old age related ailments, family sources said.

Balachandran, popularly known as ‘Vimcy’, was 86 and is survived by two sons and a daughter. His wife predeceased him.

Balachandran, who wrote extensively on Football, had a long stint in the ‘Mathrubhumi’ daily. After retiring from the daily, he contributed columns on various subjects including politics and was honoured with several awards including one by Sports Council for his contributions in the field.
