T.C.Karthiayani, freedom fighter and wife of late veteran communist leader T. Subramanian Thirumumb, died at Pilikkode in the wee hours of Friday. She was 94.

Ailing for the past several months due to age-related health problems, she breathed her last at her residence at Mattalayi near Pilikkode. Born in 1916 in a traditional Namboodiri family, she was actively involved as wife of Thirumumb and as an activist in the then social reforms movements, women's movements and also in the struggles against local feudal landlords.

Influenced by progressive, egalitarian ideas and social reform movements of the time, she had been in the forefront of various agitations defying police and goons of local landlords. She was among the organisers of the women's conference held in connection with the farmers' conference at Kodakkad here in 1939. She also had led 'pandibhojanam' (eating with other castes) organised on the occasion.

#After the demise of Thirumumbu who was also a renowned revolutionary poet, she had authored a memoir 'Thrumumbinoppam'.
