Somayagom vedic ritual to begin on Monday

Vedic chants, smell of clarified butter and smoke emanating from the holy somalatha leaves will fill the air at Elakolloor near Konni from Monday, where the Somayagom is to be held.

The ancient ritual is being organised by the Vedasara Charitable Trust.

The procession (rath yatra) carrying Somalatha leaves for the ritual from Kollamgode in Palakkad reached Elakolloor Mahadevar Temlpe grounds on Sunday evening.

The rath yatra was accorded a rousing reception on its arrival at the Central Junction in Pathanamthitta too.

Universal harmony

Swami Prabhakarananda Saraswathi is the Yajnacharya of the vedic ritual aimed at fostering universal harmony and brotherhood among mankind.

Formal inauguration

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy formally inaugurated the Somayagom at a function held at the temple grounds, earlier, on Friday.

The Keezhe Perumbadappu Vaidikan, Hrishikesan Namboodiri, is the Yajamanan (presiding priest) of the mega ritual (yajnom).

The Perumbadappu Vaidikan, Sankaranarayanan Adithirippad, Kavapramarathu Sankaranarayanan Adithirippad are the chief tantriks at the Yajnom.

Thottom Sivasankaran Namboodiri is the chief coordinator of the Somayagom, which will come to a close on April 26.

First time

This is the first time a Somayagom is organised with public participation, according to the organisers.
