Varsity fete to see a close finish

Close finish is on cards as curtain to the Kannur University Kalotsavam draws to a close at the Nehru Arts and Science (NAS) College, Kanhangad.

Payyanur college, the previous year’s champions, topped the table by moving forward from the third spot by challenging the Government Brennan College, Dharmadom, over the last four days. The Payyanur College got 187 points relegating both the hosts NAS College and the Brennan College to the second spot with 180 points each even as a few more competitions are progressing late in the day.

Sources here predicted that either the Payyanur College or the NAS College would be the hot favourite to emerge champions on Sunday. Government College, Kasaragod, with 148 points stands at the fourth spot as per the updated inputs. In the off-stage events, the Brennan College showed its prowess by topping in the table with 116 points in the two-day-long competitions that concluded on Thursday.

In the stage events, the Payyanur College with 138 points leads the table followed by Gurudev Arts and Science College, Mathil (110). NAS College, Kanhangad, scoring 104 points stood close behind. Vineeth P. Nair, a second-year Physics undergraduate student of NAS College, who scored 38 points, emerged individual champion in the arts fest.

Nipin Narayanan of the Payyanur College with 30 points stood second as an individual scorer. P. Anashwara of Brennan College with 28 points and K.M. Uthara of Sir Sayed College with 26 points reached the first two spots as individual champions in the female category.

K. Kunhiraman, Trikaripur MLA, inaugurated the valedictory function of the arts festival.
