The Amrita University has launched an ambitious project to help two grama panchayats in Kollam district deal with the challenge of toxicity in fruits and vegetables.
Through the project, students of the university started distributing organic vegetable seeds and saplings to all houses in Clapana and Kulashekarapuram panchayats.
Students and staff of the university with support from the Amrita Yuva Dharma Dhara, the youth wing of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, prepared a nursery of 1.5 lakh vegetable saplings for the purpose. The distribution was carried out with the help of the authorities from both the panchayats. The students said inspiration for the project came from Mata Amritanandamayi who recently launched the ‘Vishu Thaineettam’ project through which a call was made to gift saplings to make earth rich in flora and fauna. Through that project, 1.5 lakh saplings were distributed in the State.
