Vandalism: accused seeks CBI probe

January 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:09 am IST - THRISSUR:

P. Sabu, CPI(M) Kannarkkad local committee member and the second accused in the case related to the vandalisation of the P. Krishna Pillai Memorial at Kannarkkad in Alappuzha, has demanded that the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

He, third accused Deepu and fourth accused Rajesh Rajan, both DYFI activists; and fifth accused Pramod, CPI(M) activist, surrendered before Crime Branch Superintendent of Police R.K. Jayaraj on Monday.

“We are innocent. We won’t commit such a crime. We love the party and P. Krishna Pillai just as we love our mother. No one has heard our side of the story. The real culprits should be nabbed,” Sabu told reporters. Latheesh B. Chandran, the first accused and former member of the personal staff of Leader of the Opposition V. S. Achuthanandan, had surrendered on December 22. Mr. Achuthanandan had refuted the findings of the probe team, alleging a conspiracy by the Home Ministry to name CPI(M) activists as accused in the case.

The memorial of P. Krishna Pillai, founder-leader of the Communist movement in Kerala, was set ablaze on October 31, 2013.
