Power generation was partially restored at the Moozhiyar power house of Sabarigiri hydroelectric project after completing the repair work in the butterfly valve of the Penstock-II on Wednesday night, according to Kerala State Electricity Board sources at Seethathode.

The generators I and II started functioning by 7.15 p.m. on Wednesday while the other four generators will start functioning on Thursday.

Leakage

The power generation at Moozhiyar was disrupted on Monday morning following leakage in the butterfly valve. The leakage was detected in the upper portion of the butterfly valve which was replaced by a Coimbatore-based company at a cost of Rs.2 crore in June 2014.

The repair was carried out free of cost by an expert team from the company, the sources said. Though the work was a minor one, it took two days for draining out the water from the tunnel to facilitate the repair and filling it later.
