It may be a coincidence that the four-months-and-a-half-long Pooram festival season of Valluvanad concludes with the Pooram celebrations of Thutha Bhadrakali Temple on Friday, the day on which the results of the Assembly election will be declared.
The Thutha temple festival will end on Friday with around 50 caparisoned elephants participating in a great procession to the temple.
On Thursday, Aramkunnath Bhagavathy Temple at Karattukurssi, near Cherpulassery, also celebrated its Pooram.
The ‘Pooram season' started with a Tholpavakoothu (puppet show) at the Cherpulassery Puthanalkkal Devi temple on January 23.
The culturally vibrant Valluvanad, consisting of Ottappalam and Mannarkkad taluks in Palakkad district and Perinthalmanna taluk in Malappuram district, reverberated with the festival tunes from various places of worship. As many as 100 temples and a couple of mosques celebrated their annual festivals during this time.
Some of the major festivals were the 10-day festival at the Cherpulassery Ayyappankavu and Panamanna Sankaranarayana Swamy temples.
The Poorams at Chinakkathur, Mannarkkad, Pariyanampotta, Shoranur Ayappankavu, and Angadippuram also attracted people from across the country. The various Nerchas (at ‘Jarams'— tombs of Muslim saints) also attracted thousands of people.
