The season of the ritualistic feast, Vallasadya, at the Sree Parthasarathy Temple at Aranmula will come to a close on October 2.
According to Palliyoda Seva Sanghom (PSS) which organises the feast, the temple premises had witnessed a record number of Vallasadya this year. A total of 415 Vallasadya were held at the temple during the past 59 days. The season of Vallasadya began on July 29.
A mega mass feast was held on Ashtami Rohini day and as many as 50,000 devotees partook of the feast. Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan and Jagathy Sreekumar, actor, will offer feasts to the crew of snakeboats (Palliyodam) belonging to the Maramon and Edasserimala Palliyoda Karayogams respectively on October 2.
Waste disposal
Meanwhile, the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has agreed to provide 52 cents of land on the banks of river Pampa at Aranmula for setting up a waste disposal plant. The construction work would begin immediately after the completion of the land transfer by the TDB, PSS sources said.
The solid and liquid waste generated at the Devaswom kitchen, especially during the annual Vallasadya season, used to be drained out into river Pampa, posing pollution of the river system. Devotees have been pressing for a safe waste disposal plant nearby the temple complex so as to check the pollution since the past several years.
