Directive on Chennitha’s plea

The Kerala High Court on Monday directed the State government to inform the court whether it intended to make a full-fledged appointment to the post of Director, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB).

The court issued the directive on a writ petition filed by Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala challenging an order of the Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Court to register a case against him in connection with the appointment of N. Shankar Reddy as Director, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, by the previous UDF government.

The court also asked the government to state whether it was bringing up a law to prevent vexatious complaints against officials. The court asked the government to furnish these information by January 25. The VACB has been without a full-fledged Director after Jacob Thomas went on a leave on March 31. When he returned to service, he was appointed as Director, Institute of Management in Government (IMG).

State Police Chief Loknath Behera has been holding additional charge of the Vigilance Director since then.
