“Unexpected” was the first reaction from the Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy, when asked about the wafer thin majority with which the UDF has been returned to power.
The UDF had expected a continuation of the performance it had put in during the 2009 Parliament Elections and 2010 Local Bodies elections, he said.
According to him, the preliminary assessment was that the “baseless” LDF campaign against the UDF leaders could have led to the setback.
Reacting to a question, he said thin majority would not in anyway affect the cohesion of the UDF, which had stood together during the campaign. “And we shall stand together in crisis too,” he said.
To another question, Mr Chandy said he did not expect any pressure tactics from the coalition partners. In UDF there are no small or big parties. So the issue of pressure from smaller partners does not arise, he said.
All issues, including that of the leadership would now be decided by the elected MLAs and the High Command, he said.
