The United Democratic Front government has been sabotaging the rule of law in the State, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State unit secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has alleged. He was inaugurating a march taken out to the Adoor police station, protesting against the alleged indifferent attitude of the police in investigating an attack on the party office at Adoor a month ago.

Mr. Balakrishnan alleged that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala had lost control over the police force and the police officials were competing each other to protect criminals, leading the State to total anarchy.

Instead of booking the culprits who had attacked the CPI(M) area committee office at Adoor, the police were engaged in spreading propaganda against the party workers, he alleged.

Mr. Balakrishnan alleged that certain outside forces were leading the State police, now. “An affluent section of society was in control of the police force, keeping certain officials in key positions as their own people who could make official interventions in their favour as and when needed,” he alleged.

The law and order machinery was in the hands of several mafia groups, leaving the State in utter anarchy, he alleged. K.P. Udayabhanu, CPI(M) district unit secretary; R. Unnikrishna Pillai, K. Ananthagopan, State committee members; R. Sanalkumar, N. Sajikumar, R. Thulaseedharan Pillai, Roy Philip, Radha Ramachandran, district committee members; and T.D. Baiju, area committee secretary, also spoke.

The march began from the Central junction was blocked by the police a few metres away from the police station.
